How to allocate disk space for a VM

Recommended: use LVM disks and store data on the root partition. When creating a VM with a larger disk, the root partition grows. Minimum size is 60 GB.
If you need a separate /var/log partition, allocate 20 GB. In this case:
- With LVM there are no special considerations.
- With a non-LVM disk, create this partition before the root partition.
Note! If you use non-LVM disks and swap is placed after the root partition, disk expansion will not work.
High-level partition usage in a minimal configuration:
| Partition | Directories | Purpose | Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| /var/ | /var/csi/rawfile/ | Local storage (built-in storage + user PVs) | 5 GB + user PVs |
| /var/log | Log storage | 20 GB | |
| /var/lib/kubelet/ | Kubelet (emptyDir) | 10 GB | |
| /var/lib/containerd/ | Container image storage (containerd) | 10 GB | |
| /home | — | User home directories | 500 MB |
| /boot | — | Boot partition | 1 GB |
| / | — | Root partition (remaining space) | 20 GB |
