Purpose
shturval-vip is a node configuration component of the virtual IP management module based on Kube-VIP. It deploys as a DaemonSet and picks up assigned IP addresses of services of type LoadBalancer on cluster nodes. When a service is deleted, the assigned IP address is released from the nodes.
Features
- Installed by default in the management cluster and client clusters;
- Does not require manual configuration in a standard scenario;
- Works in conjunction with shturval-vip-provider, which allocates IP addresses to services of type
LoadBalancer.
Address pools for services of type LoadBalancer are configured in ConfigMap kubevip in kube-system on the page shturval-vip-provider.
Deployment and management
shturval-vip is a critical platform service. In the Shturval platform, the module is deployed when creating a cluster; inclusion and life cycle in the cluster is provided by cluster-manager (platform service). The ShturvalServiceConfig (SSC) object for the shturval-vip chart is created and maintained as part of the platform configuration. For correct operation, shturval-networking must be deployed.
Recommendation: Do not edit ShturvalServiceConfig manually to change release parameters (ARP/BGP modes, resources, etc.) - use ShturvalServicePatch (SSP).
The shturval-vip-provider service, which allocates IP addresses to LoadBalancer services, is described on separate page.
