Release policy

How versions are released and how long they are supported.

Types of versions

The Shturval platform releases 2 types of versions:

  • Minor version - includes significant changes: updating the Kubernetes version, changes to components or their versions.
  • Patch version - includes bug fixes and elimination of component vulnerabilities.

Release schedule for minor versions

The release of minor versions occurs 3 times a year (every 4 months).

Version support policy

The two most recently released minor versions are supported. For discontinued versions:

  • bug fixes are not released;
  • fixes for component vulnerabilities are not released;
  • Updating to a supported version is recommended.

Example: if the latest minor versions released are 2.13.0 and 2.12.0, then both of these versions and their patch releases are supported. Version 2.11.0 and earlier versions are no longer supported.

Patch versions

Release of patch versions occurs optionally if necessary:

  • eliminating identified vulnerabilities;
  • corrections of critical defects.

Patch versions are released only for supported minor versions.

Updating clusters

The management cluster and each client cluster are updated independently of each other.

The update sequence is as follows: first update the management cluster, then the client clusters. This ensures the correct operation of services.

The page How updates occur in open and closed loops helps you step-by-step to launch an update in open and closed loops, configure the channel and schedule.

Before starting, make sure that the transition from the current version to the target version is supported: see Update version map. If the target version is not available in the GUI when waiting for it according to policy, see Troubleshooting update.

Correspondence between versions of Shturval and Kubernetes

Minor versions of the platform include an upgrade to the Kubernetes version. A detailed version compliance table is available on the page Correspondence between Shturval and Kubernetes versions.
