Glossary

Dictionary for developers.

Who is this page for?

When delivering applications to Shturval platform clusters, terms such as GitOps, Argo CD, Helm, and platform-specific concepts are used. This page lists brief definitions.

Application delivery

TermDefinition
GitOpsAn approach to managing infrastructure and applications through Git. State in Git is the only source of truth; tools (Argo CD) synchronize the cluster with the repository.
Argo CDGitOps tool for Kubernetes. Synchronizes the cluster state with the Git repository (manifests, Helm, Kustomize). Integrated into the platform as the shturval-cd service.
ApplicationArgo CD object. Describes the source (Git, Helm) and target cluster. If there is a discrepancy, it shows OutOfSync and applies Sync.
AppProjectArgo CD project. Groups applications, limits access and sources.
SSO (Single Sign-On)Single point of entry. Argo CD can use platform authentication (OIDC, LDAP).
HelmPackage manager for Kubernetes. Charts are templated manifests.
KustomizeTool for customizing manifests with overlays and patches without templates.

Clusters and rights

TermDefinition
Client ClusterA Kubernetes cluster created by the application platform. Argo CD deploys applications to client clusters.
Service AccountKubernetes account for pods and external systems to access the API. Argo CD uses Service Account to apply manifests to the cluster.
kubeconfigFile with credentials for connecting to the Kubernetes API.
RBACRole-Based Access Control. Kubernetes RBAC determines rights to API resources.

Image registry and publishing

TermDefinition
Container RegistryContainer image storage (Docker Registry, Nexus, Harbor).
NCI (NodeConfigItem)Node configuration. For a private registry, you may need to configure trusted CA in NCI.
